right. now, paul ryan has been seen as an asset, obviously, to governor romney and he has been making a whole lot of appearances. i'll tell you, the crowd behind me is getting excited, ashleigh, because air force one is taxing over towards us where president obama is going to be coming out shortly and making his remarks. yes, paul ryan has been an asset to governor romney. it's why some are saying the race here has been pretty tight, although there is a small lead, a consistent lead, for president obama. today we saw "wall street journ journal" nbc news poll, three points up the president is here in wisconsin. yesterday there was a poll in milwaukee, a marquette university poll that had the president up by much more, eight points. you talk to the obama campaign, they'll point to that marquette poll and they'll say it's more accurate. it seems likie internal polls ae in between the two. the bottom line, while he has a lead that is significant, you have to pay attention to it, it's not quite comfortable. that's why you're seeing president obama here today. we saw joe biden here last week.

, the republicans have passed the paul ryan budget, which is a very substantive budget plan about how to deal with this deficit. it is all there, you know, in black and white. anybody can read that plan. it has entitlement cuts, it has, you know, cuts in various programs and so on. so they have been pretty specific about what they want. by the way, in the senate, there is no budget for three years. >> here's the thing -- >> but let me raise the other point. i think jessica had it not exactly right when she said the republicans haven't been specific about how they would be willing to raise taxes. what republicans are saying is we're willing to put a cap on deductions of $30,000, $40,000, $50,000, haven't been specific about the number, but that's a way to reduincrease the taxes o wealthier taxpayers but in a way that doesn't raise tax rates. that seems to be a big concession. >> i'm talking about negotiations. if the american people wanted paul ryan's plan, they would have voted for paul ryan. they didn't. they voted for compromise. and that's not happening. wouldn't the most direct wa

absentee ballots. vp candidate paul ryan's state has ten electoral vote up for grabs. ted rolands is in milwaukee. you have the democrats. they have history on their side. wisconsin hasn't voted republican in 28 years. last time was for ronald reagan. what are the campaigns doing at this late hour? can the republicans make a difference? well, suzanne, clearly, and they know it on the ground here, they do have their backs against the wall because all the latest polling does show the president with a lead. one poll, many of the, has them up by eight points. the reason they have that is scott walker, the governor here in wisconsin, you remember the recall election which just wrapped up earlier this year. well, during that recall, republicans were able to establish the ground game. when it comes to getting out the vote, their ground game here is superior to president obama's ground game, which, of course, doesn't usually translate into other states. democrats usually have a much stronger ground game. this is the largest population. as a matter of fact, about one-third of the entire state li

does that, he will be meeting with his old running mate, paul ryan, who is in the midst of all of these fiscal cliff negotiations. so it is a busy time in washington right now. and mitt romney will be coming right into the thick of all of this. but, you know, a lot of this is happening just as it seems the romney folks and people in romney world are trying to resuscitate mitt romney's image somewhat. you see stu stevens taking out an op-ed in the washington post just today, brooke, talking about how losing is just losing, and that it is not a mandate to throw out every idea that this candidate expressed during the course of the campaign, and it is not an excuse to show what he called disrespect for what he calls a good man. so we're seeing a lot of mitt romney, not just from the former candidate, but from people around him as well. and so it is going to be interesting to watch all of that tomorrow. >> obviously we would love to be a fly on the wall in the room. we will not be there. but during his first post election press conference, the president hinted at some possible discussi
